Back from National

First, my apologies for falling behind. I've created a Facebook page that will mirror the blog and have spent alot of time getting it going. Just search for the 'LaGrange College History Department NHD Page' and 'like' us. That way, whether you're on Facebook or the net, you'll be able to keep up to date.

I spent Monday and Tuesday at the University of Maryland. Monday, I attended two workshops for teachers. They were very informative and valuable. The second session, led by Laurie Baty and Betsy Bowers was excellent. Tuesday I spent the day judging senior individual exhibits. The experience blew me away. The quality and depth of research, the design elegance and beauty of the exhibits, and the students mastery of their topics was most impressive. Meeting those outstanding young people was the highlight of my day. Their energy, passion and abilities give me hope for the future. Anyone who doubts the value of NHD need do nothing more than attend the national competition and talk with the participants. There's real learning going on in NHD land and the children shine.

More later, including preliminary discussion of our fall workshop on the 2012 contest theme: Revolution, Reaction and Reform in History. Stay tuned.
